Biomarkers

Testosterone
Testosterone, often referred to as the male hormone, is primarily found in males, though in smaller quantities in females. It plays a crucial role in the growth and development of male reproductive organs, the maturation of masculine features (such as facial hair), the distribution of muscle mass, and the regulation of metabolism.

In females, testosterone helps regulate muscle mass, fat distribution, and the production of red blood cells.

Excessive levels of testosterone can lead to an increased production of red blood cells, which may raise the risk of blood clots. On the other hand, low testosterone levels can result in a loss of lean muscle mass, erectile dysfunction, and a reduced libido.

Cortisol
Cortisol, often called the “stress hormone,” is a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands. It plays a critical role in a wide array of essential bodily functions. While it is most commonly known for its role in the body’s response to stress, cortisol is also vital for regulating metabolism, reducing inflammation, and supporting the immune response.

Cortisol helps manage energy by determining the appropriate type and amount of nutrients (protein, fat, or carbohydrates) needed to meet the body’s demands during stressful situations. It also aids in maintaining fluid balance, regulating blood pressure, and suppressing immune responses to reduce inflammation.

While cortisol is essential for health, imbalanced levels—whether too high or too low—can lead to various health issues. Chronic high cortisol can contribute to weight gain, high blood pressure, and sleep disturbances, while low levels may result in fatigue, dizziness, and unintended weight loss. Monitoring cortisol levels can offer valuable insights into your overall health and wellbeing.

Information

Have you been feeling any of these symptoms lately?
The Testosterone Blood Test is ideal for individuals who are noticing one or more of the following symptoms:

Reduced lean muscle mass
Persistent fatigue
Erectile dysfunction
High blood pressure (hypertension)
Increased aggression
Elevated libido

Imbalance in testosterone levels is detrimental to health for both genders

The Testosterone Blood Test is crucial for determining the levels of testosterone in your body. By analyzing your blood sample, the test provides insight into whether your testosterone levels fall within a healthy range. Low testosterone can lead to fatigue, weakness, and reduced motivation, while high testosterone levels are associated with hypertension, which can pose risks to heart health. Monitoring your testosterone levels helps ensure they remain within safe limits for optimal health.

%

of men aged 30 and over have lower testosterone levels
Testosterone levels naturally decline gradually with age. However, premature reductions are increasingly common in younger men as well.

%

of obese men suffer from low testosterone levels
Obesity is associated with lower testosterone levels, as excess body fat can convert testosterone into estrogen.
Experts Opinion on Testosterone Home Tests
Testosterone plays a crucial role in the health of both men and women, influencing fertility, muscle mass, mood, and sex drive. Monitoring testosterone levels through home tests can provide valuable insights into overall hormonal health and help address potential imbalances that may affect these key areas of well-being.

FAQs

When should you get your testosterone levels checked?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, as testosterone levels naturally fluctuate over time and what’s considered “normal” can vary from person to person. However, if you’re experiencing symptoms like fatigue, low libido, or muscle weakness, it’s a good idea to consult with your doctor and have your levels checked. Additionally, if you’re taking medications or supplements that could potentially impact your testosterone, discussing your levels with your healthcare provider ensures they remain within a healthy range.
What if my results show that I’m outside the normal range?
If your results fall outside the normal range and cause concern, it is crucial to contact your GP or seek immediate assistance from emergency services by calling 111 or 999. Please note that if you’re feeling unwell or are worried about your health, it is your responsibility to contact emergency services right away—do not wait for your results.
