Uric Acid Blood Test

Several factors can contribute to high uric acid levels in the body. A common cause is consuming foods high in purines, such as organ meats, seafood, and beer. Other contributing factors include obesity, certain medical conditions like diabetes, and medications such as diuretics. High uric acid levels can also result from a reduced ability of the kidneys to eliminate it efficiently.

Once you’ve collected your sample, you’ll receive a prepaid return label to send it back to our lab for analysis. We will also provide detailed instructions via email to guide you through the return process, ensuring a smooth and easy experience.

If your test requires fasting or limiting alcohol intake, we will send you personalized instructions via email once your order is placed. However, most tests can be completed without the need for fasting.

Your results are typically processed within 2–3 working days. If your sample is sent over the weekend (which we do not recommend), you can expect your results within 2–3 days starting from Monday. Once your results and personalized report are ready, you’ll receive an email notification to log in to the Welzo online platform and view them.

While there isn’t a specific “dangerous” level of uric acid, levels that are significantly above or below the normal range can indicate potential health concerns. Elevated uric acid levels may lead to conditions like gout or kidney stones, while low levels could suggest kidney or liver issues. Your healthcare provider will evaluate your results in the context of your medical history and other relevant factors.

High uric acid levels in the blood can lead to gout, a type of arthritis that causes intense pain and inflammation, typically in the joints of the toes, ankles, or knees. Over time, if left untreated, elevated uric acid can also result in the formation of kidney stones and potentially cause kidney damage. To manage high uric acid levels, treatment often includes medications that help lower uric acid in the bloodstream and lifestyle changes, such as dietary adjustments and increased hydration.

If your test results fall outside the normal range and raise concerns, it is important to contact your GP or seek medical advice immediately.
