The Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Blood Test is a vital tool for individuals undergoing or considering hormone replacement therapy. It provides a comprehensive assessment of your hormone levels, helping to determine the appropriate dosage of hormone medication and monitor its effectiveness over time.

The HRT Blood Test typically measures key hormones, including:

Oestradiol: A form of estrogen, often prescribed during HRT to manage menopausal symptoms and maintain bone and heart health.

Progesterone: A hormone that supports female reproductive health, commonly prescribed alongside estrogen in HRT to protect the uterine lining.

Testosterone: Although often associated with males, testosterone plays a crucial role in women’s sexual health, energy levels, and overall well-being.

FSH and LH: Follicle Stimulating Hormone and Luteinizing Hormone are essential in regulating reproductive health, and their levels offer a deeper understanding of hormonal balance.

Our HRT Blood Test kit includes everything you need to collect a blood sample from the comfort of your home. With easy-to-follow instructions, the sample collection process is quick and straightforward. Once you’ve collected your sample, simply return it to our accredited laboratory using the pre-paid envelope provided.

Biomarkers

Luteinising Hormone (LH)
Luteinizing Hormone (LH) is produced by the pituitary gland and plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy sexual and reproductive function. In women, LH is instrumental in regulating the menstrual cycle and ovulation. It triggers the release of an egg from the ovaries, with LH levels peaking significantly just before ovulation. Monitoring LH levels is an essential aspect of assessing female fertility, as imbalances can lead to long-term fertility challenges.
Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), produced by the pituitary gland, is a key regulator of sexual and reproductive function. As one of the gonadotropic hormones, alongside Luteinizing Hormone (LH), FSH plays a vital role in ovarian health. It stimulates the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles and supports the production of oestradiol, a critical hormone for reproductive health. Due to its significant role in female fertility, FSH is a key component of Welzo’s advanced female fertility home test, designed to provide insights into reproductive health and function.
Oestradiol (Oestrogen)
Oestradiol, the most potent hormone in the estrogen family, is a steroid hormone critical for female reproductive health. Its primary function is to regulate and support the female reproductive system, including the menstrual cycle and ovulation. Measuring oestradiol levels is essential when assessing female fertility, as imbalances can significantly impact reproductive health and function.
Progesterone
Progesterone is a crucial hormone involved in the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. It prepares the uterus for implantation by thickening the uterine lining, creating a supportive environment for a fertilized egg. Additionally, progesterone plays a vital role in maintaining pregnancy by preventing uterine muscle contractions. Due to its critical functions, analyzing progesterone levels is an essential component of female fertility assessments.

Information

Additional Information
Female fertility testing evaluates a woman’s ability to conceive by assessing various factors that impact reproductive health. Common fertility tests include hormone testing, ovulation testing, and ultrasound.

Hormone Testing:
Hormone levels can be measured through blood or saliva tests. Blood tests typically assess Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Luteinizing Hormone (LH), and Oestradiol (E2). Saliva tests are commonly used to measure progesterone levels.

Ovulation Testing:
Ovulation tests detect Luteinizing Hormone (LH) levels in urine. The most common tests include urine-dip strips and Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs), which function similarly to pregnancy tests by indicating LH surges that precede ovulation.

Ultrasound:
Ultrasound imaging is a widely used method for assessing female fertility. It helps evaluate the thickness of the uterine lining, detect blockages in the fallopian tubes, and identify ovarian cysts or other abnormalities.

Regular fertility testing is important when trying to conceive, as it can help detect potential fertility issues early and guide the most effective treatment options.

Female Fertility Statistics

Approximately 15% of couples in the United Kingdom face challenges with conceiving. However, the majority of these couples eventually achieve pregnancy, often after several months or years of trying.

%

Chance of pregnancy per month in the mid-20’s
Women in their mid-20s have an average monthly chance of 25-30% of becoming pregnant. However, this probability decreases with age, as egg reserves naturally diminish over time.

%

Of couples will conceive naturally
According to the NHS, approximately 84% of couples will conceive naturally within 12 months if they have unprotected sex at least three times per week.

FAQs

What are the different types of home fertility tests?
There are several types of home fertility tests available, each offering unique ways to track your fertility. The most common test is the Ovulation Predictor Kit (OPK), which detects the presence of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) in urine. LH surges just before ovulation, making OPKs a reliable way to predict your most fertile window.

While OPKs are generally accurate, they aren’t foolproof. Some women may receive false positives if they test too early in their cycle, while others may get false negatives if they have low LH levels or experience irregular ovulation.

Another popular method is the Basal Body Temperature (BBT) chart. This involves taking your temperature every morning with a specialized thermometer immediately after waking. A slight rise in temperature typically occurs when you ovulate, so charting your BBT over time can help you predict your ovulation pattern.

However, the BBT method is not without its challenges. External factors like illness, sleep deprivation, or stress can affect your temperature, leading to inaccurate readings.

For the most reliable insights into your fertility, it’s best to consult with your doctor about fertility testing options.
