London Fit to Fly Covid Tests Explained
A Fit to Fly certificate is required by many countries in order to travel internationally. This is to ensure the safety of all passengers on board and to reduce the risk of transmitting Covid-19.
A Fit to Fly certificate is issued after completing a PCR test, which involves a nasal/throat swab that checks for active Covid-19. If the results of this test are negative a Fit to Fly certificate is issued and you are ready to travel.

In some cases countries and airlines only require an antigen test. This test checks to see if you have Covid-19. While antigen tests are generally less expensive and produce results quicker they are also less reliable. This is why most countries require the PCR test.

According to the ‘test to release’ scheme, passengers arriving to the UK from abroad are only required to self-isolate for 5 days before taking a Covid-19 test. If the results of this test come back negative the individual is allowed to end their self-isolation period.

Antibody Tests
Tests are done in our clinic which produces much faster results than using a postal system. Our doctors and nurses will ensure that sufficient blood is taken to produce a valid result rapidly.
Our Coronavirus antibody tests are available as an Abbott laboratory test with a blood sample. All tests used have a CE mark and are permitted by the regulatory body the MHRA, approved by the UK government for use.
For the Abbott laboratory test, the specificity is 100% and sensitivity 99.7%, This is the most accurate test currently available in the UK.
PCR Swab Test (Throat Swab)
PCR tests are used to directly detect the presence of an antigen, rather than the presence of the body’s immune response, or antibodies. By detecting viral RNA, which will be present in the body before antibodies form or symptoms of the disease are present, the tests can tell whether or not someone has the virus very early on.
PCR gives us a good indication of who is infected. They can be isolated and get in contact with people they’ve been in touch with so they can be quarantined too, just in case. That’s the true advantage of the current major diagnostic tests, you can break that transmission chain and get a clearer picture.
