Symptoms typically appear about three weeks after exposure and can vary significantly over time. In some cases, symptoms may disappear temporarily, making detection challenging. However, without treatment, the disease can progress to more severe stages, causing complications that affect various organs in the body.
Congenital syphilis can lead to serious complications for the unborn child, including developmental issues and even death. Early detection is crucial, as syphilis is diagnosed through a test that identifies antibodies produced by the body in response to the infection.
Since syphilis symptoms may subside before the disease reaches its later stages, it is important to seek medical attention even if symptoms seem to disappear.

FAQs
What does a full STI check include?
How does a blood test check for an STI?
Where do I send my sample?
What do I need to do before my test? i.e. fast, no drinking, etc
If fasting or limiting alcohol intake is required before your blood test, we will send you personalized instructions via email after your order is placed. However, most tests can be taken without the need for fasting.
When will I get my results/how will I receive my results?
Results are typically processed within 2–3 working days. If a sample is sent over the weekend (which we do not recommend), you will receive your results within 2–3 days from the following Monday. Once your results and personalized report are ready, you will receive an email notification with instructions to log in to the Welzo online platform and view your results.
Are STI tests reliable?
Yes, STI tests are generally reliable, but their accuracy can be influenced by several factors, including:
-Not following the instructions carefully
-Using an expired test kit
-Testing too soon after potential exposure to an STI
If you’re uncertain about the accuracy of your test, it’s always a good idea to get retested for peace of mind.
Why should I take an STI test?
There are several important reasons why you should consider getting an STI test, even if you don’t have any symptoms. Regular testing helps ensure your health and the health of your partner(s). Here’s why you might want to get tested:
Unprotected sex: If you’ve had unprotected sex, you may be at risk, even if you don’t experience any symptoms.
Starting a new sexual relationship: Before beginning a new relationship, it’s a good idea to get tested to ensure both partners are STI-free.
STI diagnosis: If you or your partner have been diagnosed with an STI, it’s important to get tested to check for any other potential infections.
Symptoms of an STI: If you notice any unusual symptoms such as sores, discharge, or pain, it’s essential to get tested for possible infections.
Pregnancy: If you’re pregnant, getting tested for certain STIs—such as HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B—can protect both your health and the health of your baby. Some STIs can cause serious complications during pregnancy and delivery.
Remember, even if you’re symptom-free, it’s always a good idea to get tested regularly to stay proactive about your sexual health.
What if my results show that I’m outside the normal range?
If your results fall outside the normal range and raise concerns, it is crucial that you contact your GP or emergency services immediately by calling 111 or 999. Please remember: if you feel unwell or are concerned about your health, do not wait for test results—reach out to emergency services as soon as possible.
Disclaimer: If your test results are abnormal, we are not responsible for follow-up treatments or for notifying a healthcare professional. By taking a test with us, you agree to take the necessary steps to follow up with a healthcare provider independently.
Where does my information go, and is the system secure?
