Biomarkers
Stress Levels (Cortisol)
Cortisol is a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands, playing a key role in metabolism, inflammation control, and the sleep-wake cycle. Its levels typically peak in the morning and drop in the evening, following a natural diurnal rhythm.
Importance of Cortisol as a Biomarker
Stress Levels: Chronic stress often leads to elevated cortisol levels.
Adrenal Function: Abnormal levels can indicate conditions like Addison’s disease or Cushing’s syndrome.
Sleep Disorders: Disrupted cortisol patterns may signal sleep irregularities.
Other Conditions: Links to hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and related diseases.
Cortisol testing, through blood, saliva, or urine, provides valuable insights into overall health.
Albumin
Alanine transferase (ALT)
Bilirubin
Total Cholesterol
HDL Cholesterol
LDL Cholesterol
LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein), often called “bad cholesterol,” helps transport fats like triglycerides. Elevated LDL levels can increase the risk of cardiovascular problems, such as heart disease and heart attacks. This is because high LDL can lead to fatty deposits building up in artery walls, causing atherosclerosis and reducing blood flow. Maintaining healthy LDL levels is essential for cardiovascular health.
Urea
estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR)
Iron
Iron is a vital mineral in the blood that helps produce hemoglobin, the protein responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body. Insufficient iron can lead to anemia, causing fatigue and muscle weakness due to inadequate oxygen supply. Iron is primarily sourced from the diet and the breakdown of red blood cells. Low iron levels can often be treated with dietary adjustments or iron supplements.
Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity (UIBC)
Ferritin
Vitamin D
Folate B12
Oestradiol
Luteinising Hormone (LH)
Free Thyroxine (FT4)
Globulin
Total Protein
Total Protein measures the combined amount of two main types of proteins in the blood: Albumin and Globulin. Albumin helps prevent fluid from leaking out of the bloodstream, while Globulin, produced by the liver and immune system, strengthens the immune response by fighting infections and germs.
Gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT)
Alkaline Phosphate (ALP)
Triglycerides
Triglycerides are a type of blood fat that serves as the body’s primary fat storage and energy source. Produced in the liver, they play a crucial role in energy storage and metabolism. However, elevated triglyceride levels can increase the risk of cardiovascular issues, making it important to monitor them alongside overall cholesterol levels for heart health.
