When to test:
- Are you busy with getting on with life but beginning to wonder how much time you might have left to start a family? Do you want to find out whether your ovarian reserve is normal for your age? Or are you considering fertility treatment and want to know if low AMH might reduce your chances of success? Although this AMH test cannot give you a precise answer about how many viable eggs you have left, or predict your chances of becoming pregnant, it can be used to help you in family planning if it shows that your AMH is abnormal for your age.

Anti-Mullerian Hormone
Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) is a hormone produced in the ovaries that reflects a woman’s ovarian reserve, or the number of eggs remaining. AMH levels can help assess fertility potential, with higher levels indicating a larger reserve and lower levels suggesting a reduced number of eggs. This test is often used to predict how a woman’s ovaries will respond to treatments like IVF, and to gauge the effects of aging on fertility. AMH is a useful tool for those considering pregnancy, but it doesn’t assess egg quality, which also plays a key role in fertility.

By puberty a woman loses over 50% of her viable eggs for pregnancy
Experts Opinion
Testing AMH levels is useful for women trying to conceive or considering fertility treatments, as it provides insight into their egg reserve relative to age. This information helps with careful planning of the fertility or conception journey. High AMH levels may also indicate ovarian disorders, such as PCOS or ovarian tumors, allowing for early intervention if necessary.

FAQs
What is the normal AMH level?
The normal range for AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) levels is typically between 1.0 and 4.0 ng/mL.
-
High AMH levels: Indicate a higher-than-normal ovarian reserve, which may suggest a better chance of getting pregnant. However, extremely high levels can also point to conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), which may affect fertility in other ways.
-
Low AMH levels: Suggest a lower-than-normal ovarian reserve, which may indicate fewer eggs are available for fertilization. This can reduce the chances of natural pregnancy but does not rule out pregnancy altogether.
What levels of AMH indicate infertility?
AMH levels below 1.0 ng/mL indicate a reduced ovarian reserve, which may suggest infertility. Levels between 1.0 and 4.0 ng/mL are considered normal and indicate a healthy ovarian reserve, suggesting good fertility potential.
Where do I send my sample?
You will receive a free return label to send your health test samples back to our lab for analysis. Clear instructions, including return details, will be provided via email to ensure a smooth and hassle-free process.
What do I need to do before my test? i.e. fast, no drinking, etc
If fasting or limiting alcohol intake is required before your blood test, we will send you personalized instructions via email after your order is placed. However, most tests can be taken without the need for fasting.
When will I get my results/how will I receive my results?
Results are typically processed within 2–3 working days. If a sample is sent over the weekend (which we do not recommend), you will receive your results within 2–3 days from the following Monday. Once your results and personalized report are ready, you will receive an email notification with instructions to log in to the Welzo online platform and view your results.
When should I take an AMH blood test?
You should take an AMH blood test if you’re trying to get pregnant and have been having difficulty conceiving. It helps assess your ovarian reserve and provides valuable information about your fertility potential, guiding decisions for natural conception or fertility treatments.
What can I do if my AMH levels are low?
If your AMH levels are low, there are treatments available to help you conceive, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). IVF can assist by directly retrieving eggs from the ovaries and fertilizing them outside the body, increasing the chances of pregnancy even with a reduced ovarian reserve.
What if my results show that I’m outside the normal range?
If your AMH test results are outside the normal range and raise concerns, it is important to contact your local GP or emergency services immediately by calling 111 or 999. Please note: If you feel unwell or have health concerns, it is your responsibility to seek medical attention right away—do not wait for your results.
Disclaimer: If your test results are abnormal, we are not responsible for follow-up treatments or notifying a healthcare professional. By taking a test with us, you agree to independently follow up with a healthcare provider for further care.
