Instant Thyroid Test

£14.99

An instant self-test for detecting thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) is a simple and effective tool for monitoring thyroid health. The test measures TSH levels in a small blood sample, typically obtained through a finger prick. TSH is produced by the pituitary gland and helps regulate thyroid function. When the thyroid is underactive (hypothyroidism), the body increases TSH production to compensate for low thyroid hormone levels. Elevated TSH is a key indicator of hypothyroidism, which can cause symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, and depression.

This self-test provides quick and accurate results, allowing individuals to check for signs of thyroid imbalance in the comfort of their home. Early detection of thyroid dysfunction is important, as hypothyroidism can be effectively treated with medication to restore normal hormone levels. If the test shows elevated TSH, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare provider for further testing and proper diagnosis to ensure appropriate treatment and management.

FAQs

Important information

The Instant Thyroid Self-Test offers a reliable method for detecting thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels, with 98.2% accuracy. It helps diagnose an under-active thyroid, which may require medical treatment.

This test works by detecting the presence of TSH in whole blood samples, with a sensitivity of 5μlU/ml. It uses a combination of monoclonal antibodies to identify elevated TSH levels, aiding in the identification of thyroid function issues.

Reading the results

Reading Results of the Instant Thyroid Self-Test:

  • POSITIVE:
Two lines will appear: one at the test (T) area and one at the control (C) area. This indicates that your TSH level is higher than normal (above 5μIU/mL), which may suggest hypothyroidism. It is advisable to consult a physician for further evaluation.

  • NEGATIVE:
Only one line will appear, at the control (C) area. This means your TSH levels are not in the range to suggest hypothyroidism.

  • INVALID:
If no control line (C) appears, the test is invalid. This could be due to insufficient sample volume or incorrect procedure. Review the test instructions, repeat the test with a new kit, and if the issue persists, stop using the test and contact the distributor.

Note: Results should be read within 10 minutes. Do not interpret the test after 20 minutes.

Why is TSH tested?

Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is produced by the pituitary gland and plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism. It stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones—thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3)—which are essential for metabolic functions in the body.

A TSH test is typically the first step in diagnosing hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). However, interpreting TSH levels can vary from person to person. There isn’t a single “normal” TSH value, as individual variations exist. A TSH level that may be of concern in one person might not be for another, making it important to consider other factors and symptoms alongside the test results.
